Transfers in the University System of Ohio: State initiatives and Outcomes, 2002-2009

Each year, almost 40,000 undergraduate students transfer among University System of Ohio institutions. This report portrays time trends of the volume, directions, and the outcomes of undergraduate transfer movements within University System of Ohio institutions between 2002-2009. The number of transfers has risen from 29,993 in 2002 to 36,295 in 2009, with transfer activities occurring in all directions. Transfer students moving from two-year to four-year colleges have had improved academic performance in post-transfer years, and have graduated at higher rates. Estimates suggest that cost-savings facilitated by the transfer movements are also substantial. The report was prepared by Dr. Shoumi Mustafa and Dr. Darrell Glenn.
