Ohio has a Revised Articulation & Transfer Policy
The State of Ohio has had an Articulation & Transfer Policy since 1990. The policy has undergone many changes over the years to incrementally improve the mobility of students among public colleges and universities within the state. Thousands of students have been able to successfully transfer since its initial development.
In 2002, the 125th General Assembly mandated additional improvements to transfer through language contained in House Bill 95. H.B. 95 instructed the Ohio Board of Regents to implement a more comprehensive transfer system to ensure that students could begin college anywhere within the public college and university system and be guaranteed the transfer and articulation of credits. Further enhancements to the transfer policy were mandated in House Bill 66 of the 126th General Assembly. H.B. 66 required the Board of Regents to develop criteria, policies and practices for the transfer of credit from Ohio’s high school/adult career-technical programs to Ohio public colleges and universities.
In collaboration with public colleges and universities, and through the guidance of the Articulation & Transfer Council, a Council writing sub-committee revised the 1990 policy so that it implements extensive plans to address the requirements of both H.B. 95 and H.B. 66. The revised policy was approved by the Articulation & Transfer Council on Dec. 5, 2006, and the Board of Regents approved the policy on March 22, 2007.
The revised policy builds on the foundation of the Ohio Transfer Module, with its focus on general education courses, and provides additional opportunities for transfer in 38 discipline specific pathways called Transfer Assurance Guides (TAGs). The policy ensures that students can begin college anywhere within the public college and university system and be guaranteed the transfer and articulation of credits to specific majors/degrees at any public institution in Ohio.
The complete, revised policy is posted on the web at regents.ohio.gov/transfer/policy/
