Making the Transition from High School
to College in Ohio 2005 (revised 8/29/2006)
The following reports summarize Ohio's high school to college transition outcomes from the statewide and K-12 district perspectives.

Chapter 1 - College participation patterns for Ohioans attending college anywhere in the United States.
First-time college participation has risen in Ohio from fall 1996 to fall 2004, both for recent high school graduates and freshmen who graduated from high school more than a year before attending college. The total number of first-time freshmen from Ohio attending college anywhere in the United States rose from 88,254 in fall 1996 to 105,732 in fall 2004, with older freshmen making up 28% of the freshmen class in fall 1996 and 34% in fall 2004. College attendance patterns differ between younger and older freshmen, with most younger freshmen in fall 2004 (79%) beginning college at four-year institutions and most older freshmen (65%) beginning in the two-year sector. Ohio is the preferred college location for both younger (84%) and older (90%) freshmen.
Chapter 2 – Preparation and college success outcomes for students attending Ohio higher education institutions.
Data on the high school preparation of freshmen is presented, including college entrance exam scores, high school course-taking patterns, Advance Placement course-taking, and college courses taken while in high school. College outcomes measures include first-term college GPA, percent of students attending college full-time, first-to-second year retention, and remedial course-taking rates.
