Regent Reiling

Regent Dr. Walter Reiling Jr.

Dr. Walter A. Reiling Jr., of Dayton, serves as the secretary of the Ohio Board of Regents. He is a surgeon with Gem City Surgical Associates Inc. He graduated from the University of Dayton in 1961, Harvard Medical School in 1965 and received his residency training from Boston City Hospital. He is certified through the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Reiling has been part of the Wright State University School of Medicine's voluntary faculty since its inception. He also served on the search committee for the School's first dean. In addition, he was a charter member of Wright State's Academy of Medicine and has served on the Academy Board of Trustees since 1998. From 1999-2001, he was Chair of the Board (now ex-officio), providing pivotal leadership and dedication to the Academy's mission.

He has been a member of the American Medical Association House of Delegates since 1996 and has served as president of the Ohio State Medical Association, board member for Premier Health Partners, trustee of the Ohio Hospital Association and Vice Chairman of the Physicians Charitable Trust.

Dr. Reiling was a Wright State University Foundation Trustee from 1975 to 1977 and served as the Academy of Medicine representative from 1999 through 2001 as well as on the Finance and Audit Committee.

Dr. Reiling married Suzanne G. Reiling in 1961. Together, they raised five children.

He was appointed to the Ohio Board of Regents in 2005.
