Medical
College of Ohio Faculty Senate Resolution Concerning Ohio
Senate Bill 24
Whereas,
Senate Bill 24 known as an "academic bill of rights" has
been introduced into Ohio General Assembly; and
Whereas Senate Bill 24 would impose serious and unnecessary
restrictions on teaching and evaluation methods used by
college and university faculty; and
Whereas the university or college has traditionally been
the hallmark of academic freedom; and
Whereas the nature of higher education is free expression
of a variety of ideas; and
Whereas it is the responsibility of university and college
faculty to determine their own curricula and teaching
methods; and
Whereas student and faculty rights are already protected by
institutional policy
Be it resolved that: The Faculty Senate at the Medical
College of Ohio opposes Senate Bill 24 and reaffirms its
commitment to the principles of academic freedom and
intellectual diversity.
