As you know, we are developing our budget recommendations for the FY 2002-FY 2003 higher education operating budget. Among our many possible new initiatives is one that would ask the state to provide additional support for IT needs on campus.
To help us better understand the subsidy implications of this initiative, we have tried to use data from the Area Inventory (AI) file that details which classrooms and laboratories have network connections. The attached spreadsheet contains data from the HEI Area Inventory (AI) file. You may recall that we looked at this data earlier in the summer. At that time we could only use 1998 data because too few institutions had submitted the 1999 Area Inventory files. As you might imagine, it is vital for us to have as up to date information as possible for our budget recommendations.
I am writing to ask that you have someone on your staff review the attached document. The data attached represent the snapshot of your area inventory as of the 14th day of your autumn term.
If you find errors in your 1999 data, or if you do not see your area inventory data in the spreadsheet at all, please have someone from your staff contact Michael Long at mlong@regents.state.oh.us as soon as possible. We would like to have the correct figures for the next consultation.
