Introduction
Revised June 10, 1998
HEI, which stands for Higher Education Information, is the replacement
for the Ohio Board of Regents' original data collection mechanism, the
Uniform Information System (UIS). The present document describes for college
and university data reporters how to build and process HEI data files.
There are a few noteworthy characteristics of the new system that deserve
mention here. Regarding the processing of data files, the primary technical
distinction between HEI and UIS lies in the use of the Internet to transmit
and process data files to Regents. Another key difference between the old system
and the new one is that in HEI no data file will be loaded onto the database
unless it has zero errors. Also, it is important to note that when corrections
are required, entire new files are to be submitted.
These points are described in detail and placed in further context in
the pages that follow. Users of this document should recognize the importance
of the general information sections. In the interest of clarity, the authors
have attempted to exclude general information from the individual file
descriptions. Therefore, it is important for the college or university
staff person responsible for processing a particular data file to read
all of the general information sections, as well as the section that describes
the particular data file. |
