Q:How should I report the salaries and benefits of noninstructional personnel paid through Instruction and Department Research expenditures in the FX file?
A: The salaries and benefits of noninstructional personnel paid through Instruction and Department Research should be included in the Other Expenditures fields in the Funding Unit Expenditure (FX) file. The Salaries and Benefits fields in the Funding Unit Expenditure (FX) file relate to the data about instructional salaries and benefits reported in the Faculty Funding (FF) file, and are used to allocate the salaries and benefits of instructors to the subjects and levels of courses they teach. The overhead costs captured in the Other Expenditures fields are then allocated to the subjects and levels supported by the funding unit. Because support personnel within a funding unit support the functions of the entire funding unit, it is appropriate that the salaries and benefits be allocated across all the subjects and levels supported by the funding unit.
