Flexibly Scheduled Course Sections (FS) List

File Description

This list should contain one record for each flexibly scheduled course section offered during this term. All records in the Flexibly Scheduled Course Sections (FS) list must have a corresponding entry in the Course Enrollment (CN) file for the same term.

Submission Schedule

Once per term.

Capture Date

The Flexibly Scheduled Course Sections (FS) list should contain data for the entire term.

Relationship to Other File Submissions

The Flexibly Scheduled Course Sections (FS) list cannot be submitted until the Course Inventory (CI), Student Entrance (SE), Student Enrollment (SN), and Course Enrollment (CN) files have been submitted, edited with zero errors, and loaded onto the HEI database.

Course Identifier	Enter the permanent identifier which distinguishes the course from all others offered by the institution.	Alphanumeric 12 characters Columns 5-16 Left justify
Section Identifier	Enter the identifier assigned by the institution which, in a given term, distinguishes among one or more sections, classes, or offerings of the same course.	Alphanumeric 6 characters Columns 17-22 Left justify
Delete Switch	Enter Y if this record is to be deleted from the database. Otherwise, enter N.	Alphabetic 1 character Column 23

Reporting Term: Flexibly scheduled course sections should be reported for the term in which the student earned credit.

Definitions and Descriptions of Data Fields

Flexibly Scheduled Course Sections: Flexibly scheduled course sections are all course sections not meeting during the institution's regular academic term as well as all course sections meeting during the regular academic term offered in a substantially different manner than a fixed number of meeting times per week for all weeks of the term. Please see the Recently Asked Questions page for the FS for guidelines about reporting flex courses.

The following types of instruction should not be reported as flexibly scheduled:

student teaching,
practicum or internships,
course sections offered as part of a continuous module format where registration must be closed for all individual components of the module no later than the 15th calendar day of the traditional academic term, and
course sections offered during an established regular academic term differing from the traditional institutional calendar. For example, all course sections associated with a specific program operating on a semester calendar at an institution that traditionally maintains a quarter calendar.
