OHIO BOARD OF REGENTS |
The Freshmen Remedial Enrollment (FE) file submission contains an aggregated count of first time enrolled Freshmen who graduated from an Ohio public high school in the Spring of the previous year who enrolled in either Summer or Autumn terms. Campuses should continue with past practices in terms of students to include in the file.
Use only Spring high school graduates from the previous academic year. Do not include students who earned a "GED," or who graduated from a high school outside of Ohio, or who graduated from a non-public high school.
Counts should be based on the census point for Board of Regents reporting. For regularly scheduled course sections, the census point is the end of business on the 15th calendar day of the academic term (this is not a change from the former '14th day after the first day of classes'). For flexibly scheduled course sections the census point is the end of business on the date closest to completing 20% of the course section based on the official start and end dates, regardless of the course section meeting pattern.
Mathematics and English enrollments should be treated separately. For each student enrolled in at least one remedial mathematics course during the academic year increase the "Total Number of Freshmen Enrolled in Remedial Mathematics" by one. For each student enrolled in at least one remedial English course during the academic year increase the "Total Number of Freshmen Enrolled in Remedial English" by one. A student who has enrolled in both a remedial mathematics and remedial English course should appear in both counts. Note that the counts should be based on the number of students that actually enrolled in remedial mathematics or remedial English, and not based on the number of students whose placement tests suggest they need remedial work.
Developmental education learning laboratories, study skills courses, and tutoring efforts should not be included in the counts.
Beginning with the Autumn 1999 Course Inventory (CI) file submission, all courses used as the bases for determining remedial enrollments must be reported as "Developmental."
