Additional Explanations

Programs described in the Extended Programs (EP) file should be those that are advertised to the students of an institution as requiring something other than four years to complete for the baccalaureate degree or two years for the associate, assuming that all prerequisites have been met by the students. Such programs may have additional academic requirements or require field experiences (such as co-operatives, internships, or study abroad) that necessarily lengthen the time to baccalaureate degree completion beyond four years, or beyond two years for the associate degree, or may be an honors or compressed programs that will take less than four years to complete the baccalaureate or two years to complete the associate.

Programs identified in the Extended Programs (EP) file must be unique in that all students enrolled in such programs are expected to take the advertised amount of time to complete. If the subject code of a degree program cannot be used to uniquely identify programs that will last more or less than four years for the baccalaureate degree or two years for the associate degree, colleges and universities should use the Extended Students (ES) file to report those students enrolled in the sub programs or tracks whose time to degree completion was something other than four years for the baccalaureate degree or two years for the associate degree.

Definitions and Descriptions of Data Fields

Expected Time to Completion: The amount of time expected to complete the degree should correspond to the time advertised in the Course Bulletin. For the purposes of this file submission, the time to completion must not be four years for the baccalaureate degree or two years for the asscociate. Time to degree completion must be expressed in hundredths. For example, if a degree program at a school on a quarter calendar is expected to take four years and one quarter, the data reporter would report "425" as the field value.

Expected Number of Credit Hours for Program Completion: The number of hours within this program a student is expected to complete to earn the degree.
