Course Inventory Expert System
Revised: April 2012
The Course Inventory Expert System is a logical representation of the decision rules for classifying undergraduate courses. The goal is to achieve consistent treatment of undergraduate courses across the system based on existing decision rules and policies.
The guidelines for assigning course levels to courses in the HEI Course Inventory file were revised in April 2012. The intent of the new guidelines is essentially the same as the prior Expert System, but the documentation has been updated to reflect the adoption of CIP 2010 and revised Board of Regents program approval practices for technical programs. The style of the document was also changed in order to provide more concrete and specific instructions on the assignment of course levels.
The older versions of the Expert System remain on this page for reference purposes, but they should not be used to assign course levels for CI file submissions for Summer 2012 and forward.
