Private Independent and All Out-of-State Institutions
(including all publicly subsidized institutions in other states)
Private education corporations (both non-profit and for-profit), all institutions not publicly subsidized by the State of Ohio and all out-of-state institutions wishing to offer degrees, deliver for-credit course work, or programming, in Ohio must obtain a Certificate of Authorization from the Ohio Board of Regents, and must meet the “Standards for Issuance of a Certificate of Authorization,” as specified in Rule 3333-1-08 under the Ohio Administrative Code.
Institutions Requesting Certificate of Authorization
Certificates of Authorization are granted for specific degrees and courses as well as specific periods of time and are filed with the Office of the Secretary of State of Ohio.
Institutions Requesting Certificate of Reauthorization
Additionally, Certificates of Authorization may be amended by submitting a request for such to the Ohio Board of Regents. If the request is granted after review of the modifications requested, the certificate will be amended and filed with the Office of the Secretary of State of Ohio.
