Regents Graduate Programs
The Regents Graduate Programs are the efforts of the following committees whose work results in statewide policies for graduate degree programs:
- The Regents’ Advisory Committee on Graduate Study (RACGS), composed of graduate deans of the Ohio universities, approve, approve with stipulations or disapprove all new degrees and new degree programs to be offered by institutions of higher education in the State of Ohio. Their work leads to a formal recommendation and report from RACGS to the Chancellor of the Regents.
- The Research Officers Council (ROC), composed of the individuals who serve as the primary research contact at the research universities in the state of Ohio, works in close consultation with the Ohio Board of Regents in the development and administration of the various research funding programs which have been authorized or are being considered by the Ohio General Assembly. All requests for research funding from the Regents must be made through the designated research officer of a given university.
- The Technology Transfer Officers' Council (TTOC) provides a forum for all Ohio’s academic, medical and government research institutions to share information, insight, best practices and experiences in an open and candid environment to improve the institutional technology transfer function within each organization, to enhance inter-institutional collaboration, and to elevate the role, visibility and proficiency of institutional technology transfer throughout the State.
Program Approval and Institutional Reauthorization for Private Programs
The Program Approval and Institutional Reauthorization program focuses on, but is not limited to, the following areas:
- Certificates of Authorization (Pursuant to Chapter 1713.02 and 1713.03 of the Ohio Revised Code) - Private education corporations (both non-profit and for-profit) and out-of-state institutions wishing to offer degrees, deliver for-credit course work, or programming, in Ohio must obtain a Certificate of Authorization from the Ohio Board of Regents, and must meet the “Standards for Issuance of a Certificate of Authorization,” as specified in Rule 3333-1-08 under the Ohio Administrative Code. Certificates of Authorization are granted for specific degrees and courses as well as specific periods of time and are filed with the Office of the Secretary of State of Ohio.
- Review and Revisions to Certificates of Authorization (Pursuant to Chapter 1713.02 and 1713.03 of the Ohio Revised Code) - Certificates of Authorization may be amended by submitting a request for such to the Ohio Board of Regents. If the request is granted after review of the modifications requested, the certificate will be amended and filed with the Office of the Secretary of State of Ohio. As Certificates of Authorization are granted for specific periods of time, institutions may request reauthorization of their certificate by submitting a request for reauthorization. If reauthorization is granted, a new certificate will be created and filed with the Office of the Secretary of State of Ohio.
Baccalaureate Degree Programs
The Ohio Board of Regents is required to review and approve new baccalaureate degrees for Ohio’s public campuses. Reviews focus on demonstrated need for new programs, their coherence and the capacity of campuses to provide fiscal, capital and human resources. Consistency with other degrees of a similar type and level is also considered in the review. For more information, visit the Baccaluareate Degree Programs page.
2-Year Campus Program Approval
Reviews of two-year campus proposals to offer new associate degree programs, technical majors and one-year technical certificate programs are conducted on an ongoing basis. Recommendations of new associate degree programs are then made to the Ohio Board of Regents for their approval. For more information, visit the 2-Year Programs page.
